So, today I had to back-to-back parties to go to. One was less formal and one was going to be considerably more formal. I needed a look that would help me bridge the two events, and I think this did the trick. I went with classic basics in luxe fabrics and then I added a festive twist with this really cool black velvet and pearl headband. I've been seeing fashion girls wearing these headbands for the last 6 to 8 months and I found this version for $9.95 at @nordstromrack. I looked up similar versions that were selling for $150. I don't know about you, but I'm not prepared to spend $150 on a one-year trend like a padded headband, so thanks again Nordstrom Rack. Also, I survived two back to back holiday parties, so go team.

I know these look over filtered, but honestly the light was just really bad. I put a snap of the outfit itself in a layout style in my story so you can see it more clearly.

Not my usual fare, but here’s part of my look for last night’s #krampus crawl here in #stlouis. This is the fifth or sixth ? year for this annual event on @cherokeestreet, organized by @raysharifcastile and crew. Each year it attracts a larger and larger crowd of costumed revelers, and I love that it’s becoming a #stl tradition. This is the first year I’ve ever even attempted a costume, and I went with something in the Frau Perchta/ harvest vein rather than scary horns. I thought it turned out rather pretty, TBH.

If a great outfit is hidden under a coat all night did it even really ever exist? I was really grooving on this cozy ensemble last night, but the whole time I was out I never took my coat off. Lame. Velvet culottes are last season fast fashion, boots are @kennethcole and velvet cowl neck top is #thrifted. The earrings are #upcycled, I made them at a jewelry workshop at @perennialstl a few years ago from a #vintage screw back pair I never wore. Is #trustMeImFabulousUnderThisCoat a thing? It needs to be. .

Today's an exercise in styling things I thought would be easy basics, but turned out finicky (at least in my head). But last night I was playing around in my styling app and came up with this outfit. (Admit you've been missing this scarf.) .

Skirt is the @jcrew wool blend sidewalk skirt, and it always feels like an awkward length to me. But the super dense (200 denier, what) @hm tights and knee high @bornfootwear boots remove that issue.

The cashmere sweater from Halogen is a little too baggy and always feels overly casual as a result, I should have maybe sized down. But tucking it in solves that, and I appreciate the monochrome effect here.

Instead of my default black I went for this gray #thrifted men's @bananarepublic twill jacket, and my leopard scarf and @vintageadixtion bag tie everything together. This was a fun look to assemble precisely because it wasn't simple to throw on, and I love the finished look. Do you have any pieces you thought would be staples that turned out harder to style than you anticipated?

It took me a while to get going this morning, but once I was out I did get out and enjoy some serious sunshine. 50° here today, and I'm thankful for it. Today is all about texture, delicious texture. Also, happy hair washing day!
